While sugar may play a necessary role in some baked goods because of chemical reactions that result in the proper texture, rising, et cetera, quick breads are a wonderful category of sweets for which the complete substitution of a low-calorie sweetener such as Splenda is not only completely acceptable from a baking standpoint, but for taste as well.
The second is a food addiction quiz. Do you eat when you’re not hungry? Experience a food coma after eating? Feel bad about your eating habits or avoid certain activities because of your eating? Get withdrawal symptoms if you cut down or stop eating sugar or flour? Need more and more of same bad foods just to feel good?
The prevalence of prediabetes is also on the rise, as it’s estimated that almost 34 million U.S. adults were prediabetic in 2015. As the toxins and acid waste accumulate in the cells, blood, tissues, and organs, they trigger an increase in inflammation/oxidation, the formation of pathogenic bacteria, fungus and mold, and lead to a state of poisoning commonly referred to as toxicity.
One easy way to improve glycemic index is to simply replace starches and sugars with whole grains and legumes (dried peas, beans, and lentils). However, there are many factors that affect the glycemic index of foods, and maintaining a diet with low glycemic load is not straightforward.
Those of us with type two diabetes are like the canaries in the mines, they fall first, and hardest from eating the food that is on every street corner, in all our supermarkets and regrettably sold in our schools.
For years, it seemed that many had assumed that diabetes was simply caused by obesity and inactivity. Recent data, though, has shown that environmental toxicants may play a larger role than just about any other controllable factor when it comes to causing diabetes.
Very low in carbs, this salad gives you a healthy dose of omega-3’s from both salmon and olive oil. These fats help fight inflammation and protect your cells. Olive oil also improves insulin sensitivity.
Many people with type 2 diabetes find that even though they know their kidney function, their eyesight, their very lives are on the line, can still find it incredibly hard to change the habits that are killing them. Observational studies show that prevalence of type 2 diabetes is 1.6 to 2 times lower in vegetarians than in the general population, even after adjustment for differences in body mass index (BMI). Clinical interventional trials demonstrated that vegetarian diets lead to a greater weight loss and greater reduction in fasting plasma glucose. (19)

Ctinkam – I wasn’t specifically trying to lose weight when I did the detox, I was trying to improve my fasting blood glucose numbers. However, I have heard that many “diets” stop working after 3-4 weeks because your body adapts to your new way of eating and your metabolism slows down. You might want to move to the Basic Plan discussed in the book where you start to slowly reintroduce gluten-free grains, low glycemic fruits, and starchy vegetables. Give your body foods it’s no longer used to processing, then do the more strict detox again. I have no idea if this will work, but it’s what I would try. (Please note I am not a medical professional.) Are you exercising? If you’re doing cardio, you might want to add strength training. If you’re lifting weights, add yoga. Just do something different physically. That should help fire up your metabolism too. Good luck and keep us posted.
“If all Americans could to this! Our country would be happier, friendlier most importantly, healthier and gosh darn it…we could have world peace! Amen Dr. Mark Hyman!
