Taking apple cider vinegar (ACV) has been found to help both type 1 and type 2 diabetics with blood glucose control. A 2004 study found that vinegar helps increase insulin sensitivity. The study followed subjects who drank 40 grams of ACV before meals; their post-meal glucose levels were 34% lower compared to when they didn’t drink the vinegar.
It’s not a surprise that New Year’s resolutions tend to focus on losing weight, getting healthier, and feeling better. As cranberries grow wild in the northern regions of the United States, they are readily available in all regions during the fall months and almost always are sold packaged in plastic bags. Choose bags of cranberries with firm, plump, red berries with no signs of leakage. Uncooked cranberries can be kept in the refrigerator about a week. One cup of whole, unsweetened berries has only 51 calories and 13 grams of carb, and they are a good source of vitamin C. Fortunately, you can freeze cranberries to use throughout the year.
Now you’ll eat nuts, avocado, and fish oils for energy. You can still do chicken, turkey, and fish as long as you can find the free-range, minimally processed versions. It works and I’m pretty hardcore with my workouts. Try it for a month and let me know what you’re energy levels are looking like.

Even modest weight loss can improve insulin resistance (the basic problem in type 2 diabetes) in people with pre-diabetes or diabetes who are overweight or obese. Physical activity, even without weight loss, is also very important.

Taking a fish oil supplement can help improve markers of diabetes by reducing triglyceride levels and raising HDL cholesterol levels. Research published in the Journal of Research in Medical Sciences shows that omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil are necessary for proper insulin function, preventing insulin intolerance and reducing inflammation. (14) To use fish oil as a natural remedy for diabetes, take 1,000 milligrams daily.
Fat is not a four-letter word. Fat doesn’t make you fat, sugar does. Fat makes you full, balances your blood sugar and is necessary for fueling your cells. Along with protein, have good fats at every meal and snack including nuts and seeds (which also contain protein), extra virgin olive oil, coconut butter, avocados, and omega 3 fats from fish.
Soy is also a source of niacin, folate, zinc, potassium, iron, and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a fatty acid that can be converted into omega-3 fatty acids. Edamame is also high in fiber with 4 grams per serving.
If you are pre-diabetic, your condition can go away in 3 days. If you have full-blown diabetes mellitus (type 1 or 2), your condition can be reversed in 7 days. If you are in the final degenerative stages of diabetes, this same regiment will take about 2 weeks to a month until you are fully and completely cured (not treated).
