These little berries pack a big nutritional punch. A 1-cup serving provides over half of the day’s vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant beneficial for bone and skin health, as well as cancer and heart disease prevention. Even more amazing is their fiber content: a whopping 7 grams of dietary fiber, in part due to the edible seeds.
Dietary fat and cholesterol infiltrate the blood and block insulin from making glucose available to cells. As the disorder continues, the pancreas weakens, and production of insulin diminishes until insulin injections may be prescribed.
The American Diabetes Association in 1994 recommended that 60–70% of caloric intake should be in the form of carbohydrates. As mentioned above, this is controversial, with some researchers claiming that 40% or less is better, while others claim benefits for a high-fiber, 75% carbohydrate diet.
Plant-based Nutritional Program: Include plenty of green and bright-colored vegetables, herbs and algae as part of your nutritional program. Cilantro, parsley, alfalfa, and chlorella, are powerful chemical and heavy metal chelators. Dark green vegetables and herbs alkalize and purify the blood, making it easier for the body to rid itself of wastes with less discomfort. You can juice these, include them in salads, and/or mix powdered forms into water or juice for a quick and effective dose.
Diabetes is a significant cause of ill health and premature death in the United States and New Zealand. It affects about 200,000 people in New Zealand but only half of these people have been diagnosed. Salt substitutes, such as Nusalt and Mrs. Dash (which contain mixtures of potassium, sodium, and magnesium) are available, but they can be risky for people with kidney disease or those who take blood pressure medication that causes potassium retention. Similarly, while eating more potassium-rich foods is helpful for achieving healthy blood pressure, patients with diabetes should check with their doctors before increasing the amount of potassium in their diets. [For more information on potassium, see “Other Minerals,” below.]

Method #2: Use natural roughage to pull “gunk” out of your system. This will remove the bits of heavy trash left in your intestines and is much more gentle on your system than the saline wash. You can find quinoa seeds or Psyllium husk at most health food stores in the organic form. Follow the directions on the package. EFFECT: Gradual over 3 to 5 days.
What has not generally been included in diabetic diet recommendations is the variation in effect from different carbohydrates. It has been recommended that carbohydrates eaten by people with diabetes should be complex carbohydrates.
The dietitian creates a meal plan that accommodates the patient’s weight and needs, as determined by the patient’s record, and makes a special calculation called the carbohydrate to insulin ratio. This ratio determines the number of carbohydrate grams that a patient needs to cover the daily pre-meal insulin needs. Eventually, patients can learn to adjust their insulin doses to their meals.
Method #1: Saline wash. WARNING: THIS MUST BE DONE ON AN EMPTY STOMACH! Prepare 1 liter of very warm water. With purified water, heat on the stove just until bubbles start to appear…THAT’S ENOUGH. Add 1 heaping tablespoon of uniodized sea salt (sold at Walmart). Stir the mixture until the salt is completely dissolved, then drink whole. EFFECT: Immediate. Don’t leave the house for a couple hours, you’ll make a “mess” in public! WARNING: Drinking this solution in sections will not cleanse your colon. You must drink the entire salty mixture all at once! This step is NOT completely necessary, but it get’s your liver jump started without all the “gunk” in the way.]

This explains why, when you initially remove sugar from your diet, you feel horrible for a few days. It’s sort of like trying to cut a coffee habit cold turkey. You get headaches, feel jittery, and you’re a bit sluggish.
I know that one day I will be able to gradually add more solid plant based foods to my diet but for now as I allow my body to heal (and it is healing) I need to honor it by consuming mild liquid vegtable green drinks. I also take vitamins and herbs.

In addition to walking and stretching exercises, try interval training cardio, like burst training, or weight training three to five days a week for 20–40 minutes. Burst training can help you burn up to three times more body fat than traditional cardio and can naturally increase insulin sensitivity. You can do this on a spin bike with intervals, or you can try burst training at home.
