These little berries pack a big nutritional punch. Even more amazing is their fiber content: a whopping 7 grams of dietary fiber, in part due to the edible seeds.
While juice and soda taste great, they pack huge amounts of sugar and high-fructose corn syrup. Despite juice touting healthy aspects, it’s not as healthy for you as eating fresh fruits. In addition to dropping these two beverages, another one you should consider is coffee. The caffeine in coffee may be adding to small rises in your blood sugar levels. Take the no soda (including diet), no juice, no coffee challenge throughout November and see how you feel by the end of the month. There are over 3 million people diagnosed with Diabetes in the UK, plus an estimated half a million more people who have the condition but don’t know it. It’s a continuing and alarming rise of a largely preventable condition. Type 2 diabetes, which was once known as adult-onset diabetes, is now found in young adults and children and much of this change has been attributed to the huge amount of sugar and hidden sugar in our diet. 90% of adult on-set type 2 diabetics are overweight. Being overweight desensitises your body to insulin levels. But it may also surprise you to know that artificial sweeteners have also been shown to cause weight gain and diabetes. These are the sort of things you will learn about during the Diabetes workshops.
The prevalence of prediabetes is also on the rise, as it’s estimated that almost 34 million U.S. adults were prediabetic in 2015. People with prediabetes have blood glucose levels that are above normal but below the defined threshold of diabetes. Without proper intervention, people with prediabetes are very likely to become type 2 diabetics within a decade.
After venturing out into this scary world alone and without the backing of a medical doctor, it was quite unnerving, to say the least. I was f*cking scared! The more research I did online, the more I realized I was not alone. Even though I was not being cared for by a medical professional, I was being cared for…by real people who had gone through the same thing…AND BEAT IT! My fear subsided and not only was I confident that I could treat this thing without traditional medical care, I could CURE it.

Honeydew: A 1-cup serving of honeydew contains 51 percent of the daily value for vitamin C, and like other melons, it gives you a sense of fullness without a lot of calories. Select melons that feel heavy, have a slight fragrant scent, and don’t have bruises or soft spots
No co-pays, no harsh, side-effect laden pharmaceuticals, and no life time of taking pills. Grand total to defeat my anatomical nemesis…$195. As a matter of fact, 3 weeks was the time it took to cure me of this pre-condition. That’s a hell of a lot better than half a million dollars and a life time of treatment, wouldn’t you say? The human body is a remarkably resilient piece of artistry. Even with all the punishment we dish out, it can still pop back if we begin to treat it right. My pre-condition is gone, and has been for the last 2 years.

It is important for everyone to restrict their sodium (salt) intake. People with diabetes should reduce sodium intake to less than 1,500 mg daily. Limiting or avoiding consumption of processed foods can go a long way to reducing salt intake. Simply eliminating table and cooking salt is also beneficial.

Need another reason to fit more spinach into your meal plan? The American Diabetes Association (ADA) reported on a study to determine whether eating more fruits and veggies can lower the risk of developing diabetes. The answer? People who ate more green leafy vegetables (including spinach in particular) reduced their chances of developing type 2 diabetes by 14 percent. Despite some limitations of the study, the ADA’s takeway was this: “People who want to lower their chances for developing diabetes should consider eating more green leafy vegetables.”
Grains: Grains, especially gluten-containing grains like wheat, contain large amounts of carbohydrates that are broken down into sugar within only a few minutes of consumption. Gluten can cause intestinal inflammation, which affects hormones like cortisol and leptin, and can lead to spikes in blood sugar. I recommend removing all grains from your diet for 90 days as your body adjusts to this healing program. Then you can try bringing sprouted ancient grains back into your diet in small amounts.
Refined sugar: Refined sugar rapidly spikes blood glucose, and soda, fruit juice and other sugary beverages are the worst culprits. These forms of sugar enter the bloodstream rapidly and can cause extreme elevations in blood glucose. (7) Even though natural sweeteners like raw honey and maple syrup are better options, they can still affect blood sugar levels, so only use these foods on occasion. Your best option is to switch to stevia, a natural sweetener that won’t have as much of an impact.

It is easier for your body to absorb lycopene from cooked and processed tomatoes, such as tomato juice, than from fresh tomatoes. Also, canned products such as tomato paste, tomato sauce, and pasta sauce have approximately seven times more lycopene than raw tomatoes. Adding a bit of oil while sauteing or cooking tomatoes can aid lycopene absorption, according to Health Gourmet: Eat to Beat Diabetes (McGraw-Hill, 2006).
