While it sounds like a fad diet, “Master Cleanse” has been around for more than 50 years, initially developed to treat ulcers. Will you lose weight on “Master Cleanse”? Sure. Beyoncé lost weight and you likely would, too. The problem, as with most detox plans and other fad diets, is that you’ll regain the weight when you stop detoxing. And you can’t stay on “Master Cleanse” forever without running the risk of doing real harm to yourself. Other detox plans are perhaps less extreme by including fruits and vegetables, along with a lot of juice. It’s no surprise that detox diets have a celebrity following, either. Gwyneth Paltrow, Oprah, and Bill Clinton have all jumped on the detox bandwagon at one point or another.

To stave off common detox reactions such as headache and nausea, try phasing out caffeine, sugar, processed foods, and artificial sweeteners in the days leading up to your detox diet. If you’re not ready to give up caffeine altogether, switch to lower-caffeine drinks like green tea, white tea, or matcha.

Opt for recipes with variety. Try to get a variety of vegetables diabetes detox your plate, such as dark leafy greens, beets, artichokes, onions, carrots, and cucumbers. Add cooked chickpeas, avocado, brown rice, baked sweet potato, hemp seeds, extra-virgin olive oil, and other foods rich in protein, fiber, and fat. Better yet, look for recipes that combine a variety of plant-based ingredients like  Sweet Potato and Red Cabbage Slaw.

Charcoal can bind to the good stuff, too, so don’t take it within an hour of other supplements. Try taking a couple charcoal pills along with exercise or have a sauna session. They should absorb many of the toxins you release into your gut and GI tract.

Consult a physician regarding the applicability of the 3 Day Cleanse and Detox with respect to your individual health. If you are nursing or diabetic please consult your physician prior to starting any cleanse.

I disagree. I have been detoxing as needed for over 25 years, including the Master Cleanse and have never had any adverse reactions, illnesses, weakness, fatigue, no diarrhea or vomiting, no loss of muscle, no heart issues and no problems with maintaining good glucose control. I’ve gone anywhere from 24 hours to 3 weeks and repeat at least 2-4 times a year. You just need to be in-tune with your body and be wise in your methods without trying to do things too drastic.

The first is the diabesity quiz. Do you have pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes? (90 percent of Americans have not been diagnosed.) Do you have belly fat? Are you overweight? Crave sugar and carbs? Have trouble losing weight on low-fat diets? Have high triglycerides, low HDL (“good”) cholesterol or been told your blood sugar is “a little high”?

Those who suffer from hypoglycemia usually improve when they adopt a similar diet as the above for diabetes, eg. eliminate refined sugars and alcohol, eat foods high in fiber (such as whole grains, fruits, vegetables, legumes, and nuts) and eat small, frequent meals.  Even modest amounts of caffeine may increase symptoms of hypoglycemia. For this reason, caffeinated beverages (such as coffee, tea, and some soda pop) should be avoided.

Let’s take a car that has not had an oil change or engine tune-up and has been running on cheap fuel for several years. If you switch from the cheap fuel to a higher-octane “super” fuel, the car may run a little better, but it will still run sluggish. Once you change the oil and air filters and tune up the engine, the car will run even better.

Tomatoes are an excellent source of vitamins C and A, plus they are rich in lycopene, a powerful antioxidant. You’ve probably heard that lycopene-rich tomato products might help protect against certain cancers, particularly prostate cancer. The new news is that increased intake of lycopene is also associated with a significantly decreased risk for heart disease, according to a 2013 report from researchers at Tufts University.

High fiber diet: It has been shown that a high fiber diet works better than the diet recommended by the American Diabetes Association in controlling diabetes and may control blood sugar levels with the same efficacy as oral diabetes drugs.[53][54][55]

Yes,healthy eating is one of the best ways to manage type 2 diabetes. Because this type of diabetes is strongly linked to excess weight, cutting calories and following the right kind of diabetes diet will go a long way toward improving your health.

While I have dabbled in gluten and dairy since the detox, I’ve noticed that I have more energy and fewer cravings when I avoid them. Though it doesn’t hurt to hit the reset button every once in a while, diet remains a balance, and making good choices most of the time is the way to get and stay healthy.

Ctinkam – I wasn’t specifically trying to lose weight when I did the detox, I was trying to improve my fasting blood glucose numbers. However, I have heard that many “diets” stop working after 3-4 weeks because your body adapts to your new way of eating and your metabolism slows down. You might want to move to the Basic Plan discussed in the book where you start to slowly reintroduce gluten-free grains, low glycemic fruits, and starchy vegetables. Give your body foods it’s no longer used to processing, then do the more strict detox again. I have no idea if this will work, but it’s what I would try. (Please note I am not a medical professional.) Are you exercising? If you’re doing cardio, you might want to add strength training. If you’re lifting weights, add yoga. Just do something different physically. That should help fire up your metabolism too. Good luck and keep us posted.

Soluble fiber (found in dried beans, oat bran, barley, apples, and citrus fruits) has important benefits for the heart, particularly for achieving healthy cholesterol levels and possibly reducing blood pressure as well.

Remember the more lean muscles, the better the body works at getting blood sugar out of the bloodstream and into the muscles. Also, exercise will release endorphins which make you feel good, and in that way, you will reduce your mood eating.

Then, I picked up Dr. Mark Hyman’s book Blood Sugar Solution. In it, he explains how common allergens like gluten, dairy, alcohol, and caffeine affect our bodies, even if we’re not technically allergic. Certain foods are more likely to cause inflammation, which is a stress response that the body produces when we are fighting off something. A little inflammation helps you heal and then goes away, a ton of it hurts you and becomes constant. Inflammation and insulin resistance go hand in hand, and one of the ways to combat diabetes is to remove the triggering foods.

As a rough rule of thumb, 1 pound of fat contains about 3,500 calories, so one could lose a pound a week by reducing daily caloric intake by about 500 calories a day. Naturally, the more severe the daily calorie restriction, the faster the weight loss. Very-low calorie diets have also been associated with better success, but extreme diets can have some serious health consequences.

In addition, pathogenic bacteria continue to multiply faster than the immune system can kill them and remove their debris, creating an overloading and clogging of the lymphatic system and various organs.

Adjust the amount of ginger to your taste, or you can use finely minced fresh ginger. Use could also substitute Splenda brown sugar (I’ve done this for my diabetic dad). This is an easy side, but special enough for guests – I’ve even made it for Thanksgiving dinner.Submitted by: PSWAP57

Open the windows. According to the EPA, indoor air is “more seriously polluted than the outdoor air in even the largest and most industrialized cities.” To help exchange and circulate air inside your home, open your windows as often as you can and if you have a mechanical ventilation system, use it regularly and keep it in good working order.

Choosing foods with low glycemic index scores often has a significant effect on controlling the surge in blood sugar after meals. Many of these foods are also high in fiber and so have heart benefits as well. Substituting low- for high-glycemic index foods may also help with weight control.

Fat is not a four-letter word. Fat doesn’t make you fat, sugar does. Fat makes you full, balances your blood sugar and is necessary for fueling your cells. Along with protein, have good fats at every meal and snack including nuts and seeds (which also contain protein), extra virgin olive oil, coconut butter, avocados, and omega 3 fats from fish.

Other Tests. Other tests are needed periodically to determine potential complications of diabetes, such as high blood pressure, unhealthy cholesterol levels, and kidney problems. Such tests may also indicate whether current diet plans are helping the patient and whether changes should be made. Periodic urine tests for microalbuminuria and blood tests for creatinine can indicate a future risk for serious kidney disease.
