Start with realistic goals. When overweight people achieve even modest weight loss they reduce risk factors in the heart. Ideally, overweight patients should strive for 7% weight loss or better, particularly people with type 2 diabetes.
You can do strength training with hand weights, elastic bands, or weight machines. Try to do strength training two to three times a week. Start with a light weight. Slowly increase the size of your weights as your muscles become stronger.

work. I did the 10 day detox, am on day 14 and plan to extend it for a couple of months. I lost pounds and inches. I found that eating pretty much the same thing every day made it easier for me…no choices. So I continue to make the same shake for breakfast every morning and pretty much the same lunch & dinner. Many days I’m too full to eat lunch and just do two meals. If you’ve had trouble losing weight on diets that seem to work for other people but not for you, this is worth a try. After three days my cravings for sweets went away, even though, I must admit I still have the memory of the joy of eating a donut or ice-cream. My health is more important. I suggest you also read more about how fat feeds the brain to fight dementia. There’s more to adding fat to your diet than just weight loss.

Based on Stanley Burroughs’ 1940s book “The Master Cleanser,” the Master Cleanse is both a detox plan and a weight loss diet. The cleanse is a modified fast that requires you to drink a lemonade-like beverage made from purified water, organic lemons, cayenne pepper and grade B maple syrup. Although Burroughs dedicated a section in “The Master Cleanser” specifically to diabetics, his advice is unsafe by current medical standards.
As with most detoxes, it gets worse before it gets better. I had intense gluten withdrawal, which caused headaches, irritability, and the craziest cravings I had ever experienced. I felt like I would die (or someone in my immediate vicinity might) if I didn’t immediately eat a pizza-pasta-bread sandwich. Thankfully, it passed in a couple of days, and the other side saw a lifting of “brain fog” that I didn’t even know I had. So much energy! Such clarity! It felt pretty great.

I disagree. I have been detoxing as needed for over 25 years, including the Master Cleanse and have never had any adverse reactions, illnesses, weakness, fatigue, no diarrhea or vomiting, no loss of muscle, no heart issues and no problems with maintaining good glucose control. I’ve gone anywhere from 24 hours to 3 weeks and repeat at least 2-4 times a year. You just need to be in-tune with your body and be wise in your methods without trying to do things too drastic.
Also, you should drink 1-2 cups of filtered (or distilled) water at least 3 times each day to help with hydration and the prevention of cellular dehydration due to high glucose levels and also from consuming foods/beverages that dehydrate your cells, e.g. fried foods, soda, diet soda, coffee, etc.
