Bottom Line: PAHs are incredibly dangerous to our health, in general and especially for those who have diabetes, prediabetes or are predisposed to either. If we want to lead our best life, we have to take action steps to be vigilant and cut out PAHs entirely.
They’re not just for holiday dinners anymore. There are now good reasons to enjoy this power-packed fruit year-round. Although best known for helping to prevent urinary tract infections, cranberries — with their abundant phytonutrients, including anthocyanins — may be especially beneficial in a diabetic meal plan.
The process will be much easier if you have a support group. I set up a private Facebook group so that we could all share our successes and frustrations. If you’d like to start the detox at any time, please request to join the Facebook group and those of us who have been through it will be happy to answer questions and support you through the process.
When we think about arsenic, we should be thinking about it as water. Did you know that 10% of municipal water in the United States (9) has been found to be contaminated with arsenic? Many areas might not be in direct danger of contamination, but it is still a danger nonetheless.

The first is the diabesity quiz. Do you have pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes? (90 percent of Americans have not been diagnosed.) Do you have belly fat? Are you overweight? Crave sugar and carbs? Have trouble losing weight on low-fat diets? Have high triglycerides, low HDL (“good”) cholesterol or been told your blood sugar is “a little high”?
Protein should provide 12 – 20% of daily calories, although this may vary depending on a patient’s individual health requirements. Patients with kidney disease should limit protein intake to less than 10% of calories. Fish, soy, and poultry are better protein choices than red meat.
Proponents of detox diets often recommend cleansing several times a year to improve your health and prevent disease. When repeating your detox, try integrating different eating patterns and actions than you did on your last diet. Testing out new wellness strategies during your seven-day detox diet can give you powerful clues on how to achieve optimal health all year round.
Eat 2 other meals (or more). As long as they are within these guidelines, you’ll be reversing your condition in a matter of weeks! I can’t make any promises because this all hinges on your consistency.
Almost everyone has a sweet tooth – and that includes diabetics. How can a diabetic satisfy that urge for sweets without overloading your diet with high glycemic index foods that are full of processed sugars and raise your diabetic cleanse glucose? The short answer is: try a diabetic smoothie. A diabetic smoothie can be as varied as your taste and imagination. Made with the right ingredients, a diabetic smoothie can replace a meal or make a great snack that is filling without adding empty calories.

Milk thistle: is the other major liver tonic (with dandelion root). It contains silymarin, a bioflavonoid antioxidant that provides protection and healing of the liver by strengthening the structure of the liver membrane to prevent the penetration of toxins; and, increasing protein synthesis to stimulate the regeneration of damaged liver cells and the generation of new healthy liver cells. Milk thistle supports the production of the liver’s own powerful antioxidant enzymes, such as glutathione.
It’s time to redefine dessert. “Fruit is probably the lowest sugar snack option available and it’s loaded with antioxidants and fiber, which helps people lose weight and feel full,” Doerfler says. If you truly can’t live without a little dark chocolate before bed (we feel you), Doerfler says you can indulge — as long as you limit your treat to a single portion size.
Key Insight: When it comes to reversing type 2 diabetes, we need to keep in mind how important a role hydration is going to play. If we can find arsenic in municipal waters, we should be using a purifying system (like reverse osmosis) alongside reusable containers to help give our bodies what they need all of the time.
While juice and soda taste great, they pack huge amounts of sugar and high-fructose corn syrup. Despite juice touting healthy aspects, it’s not as healthy for you as eating fresh fruits. In addition to dropping these two beverages, another one you should consider is coffee. The caffeine in coffee may be adding to small rises in your blood sugar levels. Take the no soda (including diet), no juice, no coffee challenge throughout November and see how you feel by the end of the month. In the UK the NHS spends over £12 Billion pound a year, that’s over £1 million pound an hour on diabetes and this is set to nearly double in the next 25 years. The UK diabetic association refer to this as the diabetes explosion. A person is diagnosed with diabetes in the UK every 5 minutes. It would not be overstating things to say we have an explosion, in fact we have a diabetes tsunami.
That’s not all. For years oatmeal has had an uber-healthy reputation, and for good reason. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), oats have the highest proportion of soluble fiber than any other grain, which can help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and decrease the risk of heart disease. In addition, oatmeal was the first food the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved for carrying a specific health claim.
You can choose from many types of stretching exercises. Yoga is a type of stretching that focuses on your breathing and helps you relax. Even if you have problems moving or balancing, certain types of yoga can help. For instance, chair yoga has stretches you can do when sitting in a chair or holding onto a chair while standing. Your health care team can suggest whether yoga is right for you.
Expected symptoms: for first-timer, you might experience the urge to eat in the 2nd and 3rd days. You can have a dietary fibre drink to suppress the urge. Some might feel cold or even shivering, as the blood glucose is depleted and the mechanism of energy production starts to switch from carbohydrate-burning to fat-burning. Spirulina (in powder – or tablet-form should come in handy to stabilize the blood sugar level to cushion off the effect. Exercise moderately to produce sweat is recommended. SPA and Sauna can be used to this effect. This is normal to feel slight dizziness, headache, aching here and there, and also fever. Please ensure you have sufficient water intake.
Lunch or dinner. A perfect meal might include a portobello mushroom cap brushed with olive oil and baked, Butternut Squash Soup, One-pot Vegan Chili, Curried Chickpeas, Baked Honey-Mustard Salmon, or Black Bean Arugula Tostadas.
If you eat dinner solely for the chance to chase it with dessert, we hate to break it to you, but it might be time to try a sugar detox. We’re not talking about a five-day fad cleanse, either. “The ultimate goal is to really downplay sugar in the diet and have that be a permanent lifestyle change,” says Bethany Doerfler, RD, LDN, and a clinical research dietician at Northwestern Medicine in Chicago.
Honey offers numerous benefits to our body due to the presence of a variety of nutrients from enzymes, minerals and vitamins to polyphenols. First and foremost, you should really want to get to testing your drinking water. Doctor’s Data (10) has some very helpful and comprehensive water testing kits to let you know what’s really going on in your taps.
In general, diabetes dietary guidelines recommend that proteins should provide 12 – 20% of total daily calories. This daily amount poses no risk to the kidney in people who do not have kidney disease. Protein is important for strong muscles and bones. Some doctors recommend a higher proportion of protein (20 – 30%) for patients with pre- or type 2 diabetes. They think that eating more protein helps people feel more full and thus reduces overall calories. In addition, protein consumption helps the body maintain lean body mass during weight loss.
Sweet, juicy, and delicious, ruby red grapefruit packs more antioxidant power and more health benefits than white grapefruit. In a 30-day test of 57 people with heart disease, those who ate one red grapefruit daily decreased their LDL (bad) cholesterol by 20 percent and triglycerides by 17 percent. In contrast, those who ate a white grapefruit reduced LDL by 10 percent with no significant change in triglycerides compared with a group who didn’t eat the fruit.
Try not to charbroil or prepare your meat over charcoal at all, but if you do it should be no more than one or two times per month. If and when you do, always include antioxidants like rosemary, turmeric and ginger in your cooking.
