Vitamin C: Take Vitamin C, which helps the body produce glutathione, a liver compound that drives away toxins. However, avoid synthetic Vitamin C and get your vitamin C from vegetables and fruits or a wholefood supplement such as camu camu berry. A teaspoon of camu camu berry has 10 times the amount of Vitamin C of an orange! Add it to your juice or green smoothie in the morning.
Hi, Just thought it would be nice to warn people about the potentially intense aspect of this cleanse. Two of us started this morning with a lemon ginger drink and a strawberry/coconut/spinach smoothie. Since then we have both had the runs, nausea and generally felt awful! I get that a cleanse cleans you out, but this is not what I expected and not worth it to me. Note: we are both generally healthy but were just looking to eat a little less sugar and thought this cleanse would be interesting.
Probiotics: are well-known for their positive effect on the body, but less familiar to most are their natural detox capabilities. Different probiotic strains work best at certain functions when it comes to detoxification.
Electrolytes include sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium and chloride. These electrolytes are important because they are used by the cells to maintain voltages across the cell membranes and carry electrical impulses (e.g. nerve impulses, muscle contractions) across themselves and to other cells.
Oven fried chicken: Toss 4 oz raw chicken breast in 1 Tbsp reduced-fat Italian dressing, coat with 2 Tbsp seasoned bread crumb and spray lightly with canola oil. Place on lightly oiled cookie sheet. Bake at 350ºF for 30 minutes or until browned and no longer pink inside. Serve with 3-bean salad (toss ½ c green beans, ¼ c garbanzo beans, ¼ c red beans, 2 Tbsp chopped onion and 2 Tbsp reduced-fat Italian dressing)
Salt substitutes, such as Nusalt and Mrs. Dash (which contain mixtures of potassium, sodium, and magnesium) are available, but they can be risky for people with kidney disease or those who take blood pressure medication that causes potassium retention. Similarly, while eating more potassium-rich foods is helpful for achieving healthy blood pressure, patients with diabetes should check with their doctors before increasing the amount of potassium in their diets. Method #1: Saline wash. WARNING: THIS MUST BE DONE ON AN EMPTY STOMACH! Prepare 1 liter of very warm water. With purified water, heat on the stove just until bubbles start to appear…THAT’S ENOUGH. Add 1 heaping tablespoon of uniodized sea salt (sold at Walmart). Stir the mixture until the salt is completely dissolved, then drink whole. EFFECT: Immediate. Don’t leave the house for a couple hours, you’ll make a “mess” in public! WARNING: Drinking this solution in sections will not cleanse your colon. You must drink the entire salty mixture all at once! This step is NOT completely necessary, but it get’s your liver jump started without all the “gunk” in the way.]
Carbohydrates should provide 45 – 65% of total daily calories. The type and amount of carbohydrate are both important. Best choices are vegetables, fruits, beans, and whole grains. These foods are also high in fiber. Patients with diabetes should monitor their carbohydrate intake either through carbohydrate counting or meal planning exchange lists.
In 1976, Nathan Pritikin opened a centre where patients were put on programme of diet and exercise (the Pritikin Program). This diet is high on carbohydrates and fibre, with fresh fruit, vegetables, and whole grains. A study at UCLA in 2005 showed that it brought dramatic improvement to a group of people with diabetes or pre-diabetes in three weeks, so that about half no longer met the criteria for the disease.

Like spinach, kale is one of those green leafy veggies associated with a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes. In one meta-analysis of several studies, people who ate the most green leafy vegetables were 14 percent less likely to develop diabetes than those consuming the least amounts.
Ctinkam – I wasn’t specifically trying to lose weight when I did the detox, I was trying to improve my fasting blood glucose numbers. However, I have heard that many “diets” stop working after 3-4 weeks because your body adapts to your new way of eating and your metabolism slows down. You might want to move to the Basic Plan discussed in the book where you start to slowly reintroduce gluten-free grains, low glycemic fruits, and starchy vegetables. Give your body foods it’s no longer used to processing, then do the more strict detox again. I have no idea if this will work, but it’s what I would try. (Please note I am not a medical professional.) Are you exercising? If you’re doing cardio, you might want to add strength training. If you’re lifting weights, add yoga. Just do something different physically. That should help fire up your metabolism too. Good luck and keep us posted.
