Not only are detox diets not good for people with certain medical conditions, they could be harmful. There is no research showing they improve blood pressure or cholesterol or have a positive effect on the heart. For people with diabetes, they may be quite dangerous. Any diet that severely restricts what you eat could lead to dangerously low blood sugar if you take medicine for diabetes.
Avoid plastics in the kitchen and in your food storage. Try and use glass storage containers, mason jars or wax paper. Not only are they sturdier and better for the environment, they are better for your body, too.
Remember the more lean muscles, the better the body works at getting blood sugar out of the bloodstream and into the muscles. Also, exercise will release endorphins which make you feel good, and in that way, you will reduce your mood eating.
Then, I picked up Dr. Mark Hyman’s book Blood Sugar Solution. In it, he explains how common allergens like gluten, dairy, alcohol, and caffeine affect our bodies, even if we’re not technically allergic. Certain foods are more likely to cause inflammation, which is a stress response that the body produces when we are fighting off something. A little inflammation helps you heal and then goes away, a ton of it hurts you and becomes constant. Inflammation and insulin resistance go hand in hand, and one of the ways to combat diabetes is to remove the triggering foods.
Patients whose blood glucose levels are higher than normal, but not yet high enough to be classified as diabetes, are considered to have pre-diabetes. It is very important that people with pre-diabetes control their weight to stop or delay the progression to diabetes.

Meat and Cheese. The exchange groups for meat and cheese are categorized by lean meat and low-fat substitutes, medium-fat meat and substitutes, and high-fat meat and substitutes. Use high-fat exchanges a maximum of 3 times a week. Fat should be removed before cooking. Exchange sizes on the meat list are generally 1 ounce and based on cooked meats (3 ounces of cooked meat equals 4 ounces of raw meat).

ACV has been shown to reduce the glycemic load of a specific foods. When you eat carbs and sugars, your blood sugar elevates; it essentially spikes. This continual spike contributes to a number of issues such as fatigue and dramatic cravings, which, over time can land you right in the type 2 diabetes arena.
With type 2 diabetes, the pancreas often makes enough insulin but the body has trouble using it. This has been called insulin resistance as it appears the body has become desensitized to the effects of insulin. This is probably the result of long-term high sugar intake and explains why adult onset is most common. Years of processed sugar and high GI foods bombard the body with un-naturally high amounts of simple glucose.
Tests for Glucose Levels. Both low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) and high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) are of concern for patients who take insulin. It is important, therefore, to monitor blood glucose levels carefully. Patients should aim for the following measurements:
The dietitian creates a meal plan that accommodates the patient’s weight and needs, as determined by the patient’s record, and makes a special calculation called the carbohydrate to insulin ratio. This ratio determines the number of carbohydrate grams that a patient needs to cover the daily pre-meal insulin needs. Eventually, patients can learn to adjust their insulin doses to their meals.
Not all diabetes dietitians today recommend the exchange scheme. Instead, they are likely to recommend a typical healthy diet: one high in fiber, with a variety of fruit and vegetables, and low in both sugar and fat, especially saturated fat.

Like spinach, kale is one of those green leafy veggies associated with a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes. In one meta-analysis of several studies, people who ate the most green leafy vegetables were 14 percent less likely to develop diabetes than those consuming the least amounts.
