Gymnema is known to stimulate the pancreas to produce insulin in people with type 2 diabetes. It also improves the ability of insulin to lower blood sugar in people with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Gymnema is not a substitute for insulin but insulin amounts may need to be lowered while taking gymnema to avoid hypoglycaemia.
Type 2 Diabetics can reduce their diabetes symptoms greatly with a good cleanse, but if they are taking meds, they should be supervised by their Health Care Practitioner. Show the practitioner the program, and keep them updated on your progress.
Even modest weight loss can improve insulin resistance (the basic problem in type 2 diabetes) in people with pre-diabetes or diabetes who are overweight or obese. Physical activity, even without weight loss, is also very important.
You might be surprised to discover there are three unbelievable natural remedies that I don’t believe the medical establishment—or, more specifically, the pharmaceutical companies—want you to know about.
Their may be risks associated with having too much or too little of certain vitamins and supplements which is why it’s advised that you first discuss your intentions with your doctor who will be able to advise you, taking into account your medical history as well as any medication you are on.
Broccoli, onions, oysters, salmon, whole grains: contain biologically-active chromium to support insulin regulation and increase insulin usage by increasing the number of insulin receptor sites within cells.
Thanks so much for posting this and also for your encouragement throughout the cleanse. I followed it closely and I feel great! I was never a coffee drinker and usually only drink green tea. I actually swapped it out for white tea a few times to cut back on caffeine even more. The recipes were great and it gave me a chance to try new foods – yaayy fennel and quinoa! Surprisingly I lost 4 lbs, even though weight loss was not the goal. I think it was good for my metabolism, as it has been so sluggish lately. I was honestly never hungry because I ate a ton of raw veggies and kept hydrated. I definitely feel de-toxed and cleansed! Thanks again!
You’ve got to get that sugar out of the blood, and your body has to become sensitive or responsive to insulin once again. That’s the biggest step you have to take in your battle to reverse diabetes. Cinnamon can help.
The 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends eating fish twice a week. Unlike many meats, seafood is low in unhealthy saturated fat and cholesterol, plus it’s a good source of omega-3 fatty acids — particularly fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, herring, lake trout, sardines, halibut, and albacore tuna. According to the American Heart Association, omega-3 fatty acids lower the risk of arrhythmias (abnormal heartbeats), which can lead to sudden death. Omega-3s also decrease triglyceride levels, slow the growth rate of atherosclerotic plaque, lower blood pressure, and curb inflammation. Further, ongoing studies are evaluating their effectiveness for decreasing the risk for Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
Our cultures relationship with food has been badly fractured. We have too much food, it’s not always good quality and a lot of it is deliberately designed to be addictive using sugar. None of this is good for any of us, but for those who have believed the stories that best diabetes detox food is kind of okay, and also have the genetic disposition to issues with insulin, then our modern diet has been disastrous.
Are you constantly asking yourself, “What can I eat?” It’s time to stop worrying! Living with diabetes doesn’t have to mean feeling deprived. We’ll help you learn to balance your meals and make the healthiest food choices.
During my research, I discovered that after some people with diabetes have started to eat properly and exercise on a consistent basis, they reach a “wall” where they are unable to lower their blood glucose level below a certain point or their blood glucose spikes for no apparent reason.
Commercials tell you it’s heart healthy, but your morning bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios is ladened with sugar. Try picking unsweetened oatmeal, or shredded wheat cereal options, instead. For sweetness, add fresh fruit and berries.
When we think about arsenic, we should be thinking about it as water. Did you know that 10% of municipal water in the United States (9) has been found to be contaminated with arsenic? Many areas might not be in direct danger of contamination, but it is still a danger nonetheless.
Fat is not a four-letter word. Fat doesn’t make you fat, sugar does. Fat makes you full, balances your blood sugar and is necessary for fueling your cells. Along with protein, have good fats at every meal and snack including nuts and seeds (which also contain protein), extra virgin olive oil, coconut butter, avocados, and omega 3 fats from fish.
If you aren’t normally at home during the day (e.g. you work in an office), I recommend you start the detox on a Saturday. You may not feel great the first couple of days (especially if you are trying to kick caffeine) and your body needs time to adjust to all of the changes.
Thank you for speaking out about “detox” diets. I agree that they are useless at best and harmful at worst. The best way for anyone in general and diabetics in particular to lose that yucky after-the-holidays feeling is to get back to a healthy diet, which can be harder to return to than jumping on some crazy “detox” bandwagon. Thanks again for your thoughts on this subject, which gets a lot of attention this time of year.
The juices in this article definitely work. 6 months ago I was diagnosed as Pre-diabetic. Afterwards, I began juicing the fruits and vegetables captured in this article. Last week I went to have my blood glucose levels rechecked. This morning I received the results from my lab work. I”m glad to report that my blood glucose is now stable/normal. Amazing!
Really enjoyed this article and found it interesting. I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2013 and went on a “I’m scared to put anything in my mouth” trip, as I’m sure many others alike did the same thing. Then of course tons of research followed. Then of course, slowly but surely I’m back at eating less healthy and not healthy at all, at times. Your article has sparked the “healthy, let’s turn this crap around” flame again, and for this I thank you. Just think, all I Googled was “is it ok for diabetics to have carrot juice?” so I could respond to a comment in a Facebook group wisely. Your article came up, really glad it did.

Diabetes is running rampant in our country. If you are one of the several million who have this condition, then this article is for you. It will teach you how to manage your food and therefore manage your blood sugar.
Grains: Grains, especially gluten-containing grains like wheat, contain large amounts of carbohydrates that are broken down into sugar within only a few minutes of consumption. Gluten can cause intestinal inflammation, which affects hormones like cortisol and leptin, and can lead to spikes in blood sugar. I recommend removing all grains from your diet for 90 days as your body adjusts to this healing program. Then you can try bringing sprouted ancient grains back into your diet in small amounts.

Also, there’s little, if any, evidence that detox diets actually do any good. Some people do report feeling better when on a detox diet and that can be attributed to drinking more water, cutting out alcohol, caffeine, fat, and sugar, and even to being in a state of starvation. When someone is starving, he often feels more energetic and euphoric.
A lot of diet programs out there promote extremely restricted eating. Not 21DSD. That’s because a detox program program works by getting your body to naturally cleansing itself of substances that create negative health effects. That’s why this program works!
Improved glucose tolerance with lower or similar levels of insulin has been reported in more than ten trials of chromium supplementation in people with varying degrees of glucose intolerance. Chromium polynicotinate supplements increase sensitivity to insulin and therefore combat the onset of diabetes.
I have been a fan for a few months now and refer your site to anyone and everyone looking to make improvements in their lives, so thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and efforts! It has really helped me to get to a place I have been aiming for…I am just finishing up this detox/ cleanse and wanted to give some feed back. First, I loved the ease of the menu items. I have come to realize that eating right takes time and thought. You have to be prepared. So I made a shopping list and actually sent my hubby to the store! I love the morning tea. I have only recently started drinking tea and have acquired an affinity for the green tea with jasmine. The lemon adds a little zing that I enjoy just that much more! I made the soup first and then the quinoa salad with balsamic dressing. Both were better than I could have hoped for. I did not experience hunger pangs or cravings that first day and was super excited to hit the gym and still be going strong by the time I picked the kids up from school around 4 pm. I usually want a nap from 2-4 pm. I have been reading others’ posts and it seems I am an anomaly in that the first night I experienced a pretty significant bout of insomnia. I finally fell into a fitful rest around 4 am. Tried a different smoothie the second day and it too is something I will use over and over again. The lack of sleep didn’t seem to affect me all that much throughout the day and into the evening. I didn’t have as much trouble falling asleep but could have easily stayed up later. And today, here it is almost 11pm and I am still up…heading to bed shortly though. I feel great and wanted to thank you again! I am actually thinking about staying away from gluten and meat and most dairy for a bit longer. Blessing to you and your family for a fantastic 2013!
Taking 200 micrograms of chromium picolinate three times daily with meals can help improve insulin sensitivity. A review published in Diabetes Technology and Therapeutics evaluated 13 studies that reported significant improvement in glycemic control and substantial reductions in hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia after patients used chromium picolinate supplementation. Other positive outcomes from supplementing with chromium picolinate included reduced cholesterol and triglyceride levels and reduced requirements for hypoglycemic medication. (12)
I’ve kept the whole eggs in this recipe instead of using an egg substitute or egg whites, as the caloric value difference is only about 5 calories per slice and I find that the yolks are a necessary binding ingredient. If you are concerned with cholesterol (and the recipe as written only has about 20 grams per slice) try it with egg whites or egg substitute (3/4 cup) and let us know how it goes!
Note: If the smoothie above is too high in sugar for you, you can always just add a tablespoon or two to your morning water or smoothie. You can go up to about four or five tablespoons for maximum benefit throughout the day.
• Most grocery stores carry a variety of soy-base meat substitutes, such as veggie burgers (3 ounces), sausage (2 links), imitation-beef crumbles (2 ounces), and imitation-chicken nuggets (2 nuggets).
