Watermelon: Like tomatoes, watermelon is a good source of the antioxidant lycopene, which may help protect against some cancers and cell damage associated with heart disease. The American Heart Association has certified fresh watermelon for its Heart-Check program as being low in saturated fat and cholesterol. When selecting watermelon, look for ones without bruises or dents. Store whole melons at room temperature for up to 10 days. One serving is 1-1/4 cups cubed.

Liver cleansing/detoxification can provide relief from ailments such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, blood clots, thick sticky blood, constipation, diarrhea, fatigue, allergies, weight problems, digestive difficulties, stress, and low sex drive.

Moderation is advised with regard to consuming alcohol and using some drugs. Alcohol inhibits glycogenesis in the liver and some drugs inhibit hunger symptoms. This, with impaired judgment, memory and concentration caused by some drugs can lead to hypoglycemia. People with diabetes who take insulin or tablets such as sulphonylureas should not, therefore, consume alcohol on an empty stomach but take some starchy food (such as bread or potato crisps) at the same time as consumption of alcohol.[citation needed]

Low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia) generally occur in people with type 1 or type 2 diabetes taking insulin or other blood sugar-lowering medications. Researchers said more than 100,000 serious hypoglycemia episodes occur each year.

If your goal is to detox your system, don’t waste your time or money. Your body is an expert at getting rid of toxins no matter what you eat. Obesity is common in patients with type 2 diabetes, and this condition appears to be related to insulin resistance. Weight loss medications or bariatric surgery may be appropriate for some patients.

However, if you have a systemic degenerative disease/ailment such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, indigestion, or constipation, then, your body and its cells are sick and full of excess toxins, and are unable to cleanse and detoxify properly.

I knew I wanted to try a 3 Day Cleanse for myself.  Seeing the Skinny Ms. site advertise the book and cleanse I was ready to give it a try. Since I already eat quite healthy, no refined flours or sugars, I didn’t think I’d notice much difference in 3 days. How wrong I was! I am lactose intolerant, but do have some dairy. Removing all forms of dairy, removing animal protein except for egg whites in my smoothies and also removing certain carbs for the cleanse was just what I needed. I felt fantastic and a lot less bloated too and I didn’t even remove the caffeine as suggested.

Your body uses insulin to convert the food you eat into energy. Here’s how the process works in a non-diabetic person: calories are consumed, blood sugar rises, then the pancreas releases insulin to convert the sugar into energy. Any sugar not used as energy will be stored as fat to be used as energy later.

Data of one study suggests that ginger and garlic are insulinotropic (9) rather than hypoglycemic while overall anti-diabetic effects of ginger are better than those of garlic, at least in this experimental condition. Much better anti-diabetic effects of ginger and garlic may be obtained when feeding is with a normal rather than a high fat containing diet. (10)

Fish. Fish is probably the best source of protein. Evidence suggests that eating moderate amounts of fish (twice a week) may improve triglycerides and help lower the risks for death from heart disease, dangerous heart rhythms, blood pressure, a tendency for blood clots, and the risk for stroke.

The clay acts as a sponge as it passes through your body, undigested. It absorbs water and expands, creating a porous, sponge-like structure that draws toxins in. It is because of this spongey quality that bentonite clay is also combined with cilantro in order to help absorb some of the toxins and heavy metals that are being flushed from your system by the cilantro.

Diabetes increases your risk of heart disease and stroke by accelerating the development of clogged and hardened arteries. Foods containing the following can work against your goal of a heart-healthy diet.

Dairy Products. A high intake of dairy products may lower risk factors related to type 2 diabetes and heart disease (insulin resistance, high blood pressure, obesity, and unhealthy cholesterol). Some researchers suggest the calcium in dairy products may be partially responsible for these benefits. Vitamin D contained in dairy may also play a role in improving insulin sensitivity, particularly for children and adolescents. However, because many dairy products are high in saturated fats and calories, it’s best to choose low-fat and nonfat dairy items.

Beta glucan: contains soluble fibers that help to improve insulin sensitivity and reduce the diabetic cleanse in blood glucose levels by delaying gastric emptying so that dietary sugar is absorbed more gradually. Beta glucan is found in the cell walls of baker’s yeast, grains (e.g. oat bran, barley bran, oat/rye sprouts) and mushrooms (e.g. maitake, reishi, shiitake).

Vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and beans are good sources of carbohydrates. Whole grain foods provide more nutritional value than pasta, white bread, and white potatoes. Brown rice is a better choice than white rice.

The recipes in the book were not written by someone who cooks often! The instructions might tell you to pour dressing on a salad and then go cook a piece of chicken. I don’t know about you, but I don’t really like soggy greens! Read the recipes carefully and see if the steps make sense or if you need to make some adjustments.
