According to information from the Mayo Clinic, diabetes is a disease which occurs when the body is no longer able to properly regulate its blood glucose (sugar) levels. Treatment for diabetes involves both prescription medication and regulation of dietary intake to keep blood sugar levels naturally low. While it can be difficult to reconcile the recommendations of diabetic dieting with those of many detox plans, there are nevertheless some plans which purport to achieve detoxification effects without compromising the principles of a diabetic diet.
People with diabetes cannot properly process glucose, a sugar the body uses for energy. As a result, glucose stays in the blood causing blood glucose to rise, however, the cells of the body are starved for glucose. People with diabetes are at high risk of heart disease, atherosclerosis, cataracts, retinopathy, stroke, poor wound healing, infections and damage to the kidneys and nerves. In addition, those with diabetes have a higher mortality rate if they also have high homocysteine levels. This is often as a result of eating too much red meat. (3)
Diabetics with chronic constipation tend to show higher blood sugar levels, so colon cleansing can help maintain levels. Blood sugars go up not only in response to eating high-sugar or high-carbohydrate foods, but also when the colon is stretched or distended. The cells that line the part of the intestine closest to the stomach send a signal to the pancreas when a meal has been digested. The pancreas then secretes insulin to prepare to move glucose to cells that need it. The pancreas also secretes glucagons, which activate the liver into releasing enough glucose to keep sugar levels from going too low. Diabetics either do not produce insulin or the cells in their bodies do not respond to it. Diabetics do produce glucagons, which can keep their blood sugars unstable. Bulky foods or large quantities of meat and starchy foods trigger this process, because they do not pass through the intestines quickly. Keeping the colon clear can help to stabilize the blood sugars.
Doctors often use the full term “Diabetes Mellitus” rather than “diabetes” alone, to distinguish this disorder from “Diabetes Insipidus” which is another rare disease that does not affect blood sugar levels.

Soy. Soy is an excellent food. It is rich in both soluble and insoluble fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and provides all essential proteins. Soy proteins have more vitamins and minerals than meat or dairy proteins. They also contain polyunsaturated fats, which are better than the saturated fat found in meat. The best sources of soy protein are soy products (such as tofu, soy milk, and soybeans). Soy sauce is not a good source. It contains only a trace amount of soy and is very high in sodium.
Eating carbohydrate-containing foods temporarily raises blood sugar and insulin levels. The blood sugar-raising effect of a food, called its “glycemic index,” depends on how rapidly its carbohydrate is absorbed. Many starchy foods have a glycaemic index similar to table sugar (sucrose) and those eating large amounts of foods with high glycaemic indexes are at an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. On the other hand, eating a diet high in carbohydrate-rich foods with low glycaemic indexes (eg. beans, peas, fruit and oats) is associated with a low risk of diabetes type 2. A high-fiber diet is also important in controlling diabetes and blood sugar levels.

And, if your cells can’t remove the toxins, then, your cells can’t repair and heal themselves. This is a key point to understand because if your cells can’t repair the damage being caused by your diabetes, then, it will be difficult to stabilize your blood glucose levels. You may be able to temporarily lower your blood glucose, but, eventually, it will start to creep back up.
