Do you experience… Sugar cravings or carb cravings Energy spikes and dips throughout the day fatigue, lethargy, depression or anxiety brain fog, cloudy thinking, trouble concentrating hunger that goes from mild to intense very quickly
Though it wasn’t all about the food. Stress causes inflammation, so a big part of healing yourself is to actively work on relaxation techniques. Detoxifying baths, journaling, breathing, media fasting, and exercise were all diabetes detox of the plan, too. It’s also a lot easier to make better food choices after you’ve taken a few deep, calming breaths.
The majority of people with diabetes type 2 are overweight. Excess abdominal weight does not stop insulin formation but it does make the body less sensitive to insulin. Type 2 diabetes improves with weight loss programs.
However, if you have diabetes the process works differently: you consume calories, insulin is released in response to the increased blood sugar but your body is unable to use the insulin effectively. Your brain sees that your blood sugar is still going up, so it asks your pancreas to release more insulin. But since your body can’t use it’s insulin to convert sugars into fuel, these sugars are now stored as fat, or they float around your blood stream. None of this is good.
Salt substitutes, such as Nusalt and Mrs. Dash (which contain mixtures of potassium, sodium, and magnesium) are available, but they can be risky for people with kidney disease or those who take blood pressure medication that causes potassium retention. Similarly, while eating more potassium-rich foods is helpful for achieving healthy blood pressure, patients with diabetes should check with their doctors before increasing the amount of potassium in their diets. [For more information on potassium, see “Other Minerals,” below.]
As a rough rule of thumb, 1 pound of fat contains about 3,500 calories, so one could lose a pound a week by reducing daily caloric intake by about 500 calories a day. Naturally, the more severe the daily calorie restriction, the faster the weight loss. Very-low calorie diets have also been associated with better success, but extreme diets can have some serious health consequences.

Fructose, the sugar found in fruits, produces a smaller increase in blood sugar than sucrose. The modest amounts of fructose in fruit can be handled by the liver without significantly increasing blood sugar but the large amounts in soda and other processed foods with high-fructose corn syrup overwhelm normal liver mechanisms and trigger production of unhealthy triglyceride fats.
If you’re interested in expanding your vegetarian options, you may want to give quinoa (pronounced KEEN- wah) a try. According to the Whole Grains Council, quinoa is an ancient grain consumed as far back as the when Inca civilization was in full swing. It was largely forgotten until it was rediscovered in the 1970s. While this “ancient grain” tastes and cooks up like as a grain, it’s actually a nutrient-rich seed, says Connie Crawley, RD, LD, Nutrition and Health Specialist at the University of Georgia Extension Service.

The solution to pollution is dilution – aka hydrate, hydrate, hydrate – 1 ounce of water per pound of body weight. As I mentioned before, purified water is going to be best (so we can avoid all of that nasty arsenic).
Sugar addiction is no joke. Once you’re hooked, cravings can be hard to resist, leading you down a slippery slope towards obesity and other health problems. “Studies are showing that in some people and animals, the brain can react to sugar very much like it can to drugs and alcohol,” Doerfler says. That’s why when you initially cut added sugars from your diet, you might feel deprived for a few days. “When your body is overloaded with waste, you feel more uncomfortable when not eating that food,” Fuhrman says. “It’s like stopping coffee.”
While sugar may play a necessary role in some baked goods because of chemical reactions that result in the proper texture, rising, et cetera, quick breads are a wonderful category of sweets for which the complete substitution of a low-calorie sweetener such as Splenda is not only completely acceptable from a baking standpoint, but for taste as well.
