My Dad recently had a test done to reveal he had a slight pre-condition (I’d rather not say for my Dad’s sake but you can guess what it is) that happens commonly to men over 50 years of age. Me being my father’s son, I thought the same thing may happen to me, so I decided to get tested. Well, I had the exact same pre-condition my Dad had and I was only 36 years old! The doctors all wanted to place me on medications right away to try and treat this pre-condition, but I refused their recommendations. I’m now what they would call a “non-compliant patient”.

Some readers of this blog, the CompostMaster and I recently took on the challenge presented in The Blood Sugar Solution 10-Day Detox Diet by Mark Hyman, MD. Dr. Hyman is one of the physicians featured in the recent movie Fed Up.
Some people with diabetes need to eat at about the same time each day. Others can be more flexible with the timing of their meals. Depending on your diabetes medicines or type of insulin, you may need to eat the same amount of carbohydrates at the same time each day. If you take “mealtime” insulin, your eating schedule can be more flexible.
Food for thought. I am a type 2 diabetic and working very hard to figure out all the proper diet/exercise. I was on three oral meds at the beginning of this year and had insulin shots suggested as the next step. No way! I did the enemas far more frequent than I probably should have but tried colon hydrotherapy and within a couple visits cut Jardiance daily dose in half and fast forward to today, I’m on metformin only. So since January off two meds completely and still working on this third one.
Dr. Hyman’s research made sense to me, so I thought I’d give his diet a try. With little less than a month until my follow-up doctor’s appointment, I wanted to jumpstart my progress. I read his 10-Day Detox Diet, which cuts out not only the inflammation triggers of gluten, dairy, caffeine, and alcohol, but also all grains, most fruit, legumes, and starchy vegetables, to help maintain balanced blood sugar levels. I welcomed the return of humanely-produced lean protein and an almost laughable amount of healthy fats — nearly 20 g per meal — which was absolutely shocking to someone who grew up in the 1980s and 1990s, when fat was the enemy. Could this really produce results? I was about to find out.
Fenugreek seeds are high in soluble fiber, which helps lower blood sugar by slowing down carbohydrate digestion and absorption. Research suggests that fenugreek may also contain a substance that stimulates insulin production and improves blood sugar control. While these results are promising, it should be noted that further studies are needed to determine the causal relationship between eating blueberries and decreased chances of developing diabetes.
