Don’t consume foods or drinks that have been in contact with plastic, styrofoam or nonstick surfaces. Replace plastic food and beverage containers with glass or stainless steel versions. Replace nonstick cookware with cast iron or stainless steel pots and pans.

Patients with diabetic kidney problems need to limit their intake of protein. A typical protein-restricted diet limits protein intake to no more than 10% of total daily calories. Patients with kidney damage also need to limit their intake of phosphorus, a mineral found in dairy products, beans, and nuts. (However, patients on dialysis need to have more protein in their diets.) Potassium and phosphorus restriction is often necessary as well.

Data of one study suggests that ginger and garlic are insulinotropic (9) rather than hypoglycemic while overall anti-diabetic effects of ginger are better than those of garlic, at least in this experimental condition. Each juice should contain 1/2 an apple, 1 whole carrot, a small piece of ginger, 1/2 tablespoon of turmeric (root or powder), a green (pick one: spinach, broccoli, kale, chard, collards, etc.), a dark berry (pick one: blueberries, strawberries, blackberries*, raspberries, etc.) Lastly, add your multivitamin (Andrew Lessman’s Essential 1 Multivitamin) to the smoothie.
