Whole, fried slices, water extracts and juice of bitter melon have been shown to improve blood-sugar control in people with type 2 diabetes, according to preliminary trials. My husband is home from the hospital after his second bout of cellulitis, this one very serious. We had been juicing, primarily green juices, since the first of the year, but dropped out of the habit as life just got in the way. Diabetes is too serious to ignore. We are back juicing, this time for life.
Apple cider vinegar (organic): contains nutrients that dilute the toxins in the bladder; and; help to remove acid crystals that collect in soft tissues and the joints (causing arthritis). Take a mixture of 2 tbsp. organic apple cider vinegar, 1 tbsp. raw honey and 1 cup of filtered water 4 times daily during a weekend so that the crystals can be flushed out of the body by the kidneys and other organs.

Exercise naturally supports your metabolism by burning fat and building lean muscle. To prevent and reverse diabetes, make exercise a part of your daily routine. This doesn’t necessary mean that you have to spend time at the gym. Part of my crazy diet mania was a fast that was 3 weeks, I lasted 2, it was only 3 protein smoothies a best diabetes detox zero solid food, water/herb tea…I was working 6 nights a week & had a 3yr old & a teen! OMG what could I have been thinking of? Your detox/cleanse is so doable, and yes I Tivo Dr OZ everyday, no I don’t need to lose any more weight, but I totally believe in cleansing our bodies…it’s like what we do for our car, a little tune up. I brought them up cause I just got a high protein & fiber hemp from them, I’m big on meal replacement smoothies just whenever I feel like it…this stuff is terrible! Holy cow, I tried everything to make it look & taste better…YUCK! What was I thinking of, miss know-it-all, blew it… looks & tastes like dirt (poop)! All “regular food” is out for this session (depending on your level, as indicated above, of diabetes). Your diabetes diet for the next 3 to 14 days will consist of vegetables, fruits, oatmeal, and juices containing fresh organic fruits and vegetables. MOST FRUIT IS OFF LIMITS FOR THE FIRST 5 DAYS! After venturing out into this scary world alone and without the backing of a medical doctor, it was quite unnerving, to say the least. I was f*cking scared! The more research I did online, the more I realized I was not alone. Even though I was not being cared for by a medical professional, I was being cared for…by real people who had gone through the same thing…AND BEAT IT! My fear subsided and not only was I confident that I could treat this thing without traditional medical care, I could CURE it.
Even small amounts of physical activity can help. Experts suggest that you aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate or vigorous physical activity 5 days of the week.3 Moderate activity feels somewhat hard, and vigorous activity is intense and feels hard. If you want to lose weight or maintain weight loss, you may need to do 60 minutes or more of physical activity 5 days of the week.3
Drinking plenty of water can go a long way in flushing out toxins. While you’re on your detox diet, aim to drink eight glasses of filtered water daily. That includes a glass of water (ideally room-temperature or lukewarm) as soon as you wake up in the morning. A helpful hint: opting for lemon water or a DIY infused water may enhance the detoxing effects of your morning hydration.
Ctinkam – I wasn’t specifically trying to lose weight when I did the detox, I was trying to improve my fasting blood glucose numbers. However, I have heard that many “diets” stop working after 3-4 weeks because your body adapts to your new way of eating and your metabolism slows down. You might want to move to the Basic Plan discussed in the book where you start to slowly reintroduce gluten-free grains, low glycemic fruits, and starchy vegetables. Give your body foods it’s no longer used to processing, then do the more strict detox again. I have no idea if this will work, but it’s what I would try. (Please note I am not a medical professional.) Are you exercising? If you’re doing cardio, you might want to add strength training. If you’re lifting weights, add yoga. Just do something different physically. That should help fire up your metabolism too. Good luck and keep us posted.

In fact, Dr. Joel Fuhrman, author of The End of Dieting, says eating too much sugar should be considered just as dangerous as smoking cigarettes. “A diet with sugar and high glycemic index foods promotes all the leading causes of death in America,” he says. “I don’t see value in cutting out sugar for a few days and then going back to eating it, but I do see value in cutting it out permanently.”

Meditation: One of the parts of the body that we forget to detox is the mind! Meditation has been shown to ease depression, improve mental function, and reduce stress and anxiety. Meditation also reduces thought patterns or attachments to negative feelings that actually influence our physical chemistry.
No one should take potassium supplements without consulting a doctor. Kidney problems can cause potassium overload, and medications commonly used in diabetes (such as ACE inhibitors or potassium-sparing diuretics) also limit the kidney’s ability to excrete potassium. Patients with diabetic nephropathy (kidney disease) and kidney failure need to restrict dietary potassium, as well as phosphorus. Phosphorus-rich foods that should be avoided include meats, dairy products, beans, whole foods, and nuts. In addition, many processed and fast foods contain high amounts of phosphorus additives.
Healthy carbohydrates. During digestion, sugars (simple carbohydrates) and starches (complex carbohydrates) break down into blood glucose. Focus on the healthiest carbohydrates, such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes (beans, peas and lentils) and low-fat dairy products.
